Vegetables Planted in My Summer Garden

Below are all of the crops I presently have growing in my summertime garden this year . I contrive to still plant a few more things this calendar month plus I’llsuccession plantthroughout the season .

Beans

I plant a few different varieties of bean plant in my garden . A couple of bush varieties and a pole variety . Bush beans are smaller and more compendious plant versus celestial pole noggin that should grow up a treillage .

Bush beans are also quicker to mature but they have a shorter harvest period . Pole beans typically take longer to mature but have a long harvest window . So I care to establish both types and then I re - plant bush varieties multiple times throughout the season to extend our harvest time .

dome do best when they are planted immediately by germ because they do not care their solution disturbed . So even if you see them as organ transplant at a local baby’s room , you will have best success direct sowing seeds .

Varieties I ’m growing ,

Cucumbers

cuke are anothersummer craw that should be directly sown by semen . germ develop quickly and when the weather condition is warm enough the plant life farm really tight !

They will also profit from growing up a treillage . This gives the plants more air circulation which decreases pestilence and disease issues . It also saves blank in the garden and makes harvest easy .

Lettuce

Lettuce is actually a nerveless season crop but if you reseed it often and harvest frequently when the leaves are vernal around 3 - 5 inch tall you should be able-bodied to continue catch a harvest all throughout the season .

But since lettuce does not prefer warm weather you ca n’t let the plants fully matured or they are going tobolt and channelize to sead . The key fruit to grow moolah in your summer garden is to reseed often and glean frequently !

Okra

Okra is one of thebest heating plant liberal plantsto grow in your summer garden ! Like the bulk of quick weather crops , it develop best directly sown by cum . you may plant it as a transplant but I recommend right away seed it by seed .

Once the okra starts producing be indisputable to harvest the fuel pod ofttimes when they are only a few inches long because that ’s when they are most tippy . However , at the end of the season you’re able to leave some pods on the industrial plant to fully mature so that you cansave the Abelmoschus esculentus seed .

Peppers

Peppers are a great summer crop to grow and they are usually one of our best performers in the garden ! However , if you last in a live climate likeZone 9it ’s much laborious to get varieties like bell black pepper to mature to full size . You ’ll have much better success with diminished white pepper form such as Italian Sweet , Shishitos , Serranos , etc .

black pepper plants should transplanted into the garden and so I recommend start up your own seedling too soon in the season or buying already started transplants from a local nursery .

I have so many favorite pepper varieties and so it ’s concentrated to choose a preferent but if you ’ve never produce Shishito pepper they are at the top of my tilt . They are mild and they are really great seared in a goat god witholive rock oil , garlic , and soybean sauce .

Squash

There are two types of squash rackets you may spring up , summertime squash and winter squelch . Summer crush matures moderately quickly and produces a long ton of yield throughout the season . Whereas , winter squash take longer to mature and does not produce as much fruit , but has a much longerstorage life .

Squash of all kind should be right away sow by come . It ’s very common to find transplant in the garden center but like so many of the crops I ’ve advert today , it will do better planted directly by seed if you live in a ardent climate like Zone 9 .

This year I planted lots of different potpourri but only one of each kind . That manner we have lots of different kind to misrepresent with verses getting hackneyed of just one squash . I will also establish 1 - 2 more multiplication later on in the season to extend our harvests .

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are definitely one of our favorite summer crops ! We use them more than anything else . They should be transplanted into the garden and so you canstart your own seedlingsearly on in the season or buy already come out transplant .

They should also be grown along a trellis . This year we built a cattle panel treillage which is very sturdy and will last a very foresightful time . you’re able to practice other method acting for trellising but I do n’t recommend tomato cages because they are so flimsy .

Another peak for planting Lycopersicon esculentum is to give them plenty of room . Ideally you shouldspace your tomato plantsabout 3 metrical unit apart . When you crowd your plants they will grow poorly and it increase pest and disease issuing .

Tomatillos

Tomatillos can be directly sown by source or transplanted . But if you transfer them , burry about 2/3 of the stem because tomatillo works will grow root all along the buried dower of the radical just like Lycopersicon esculentum plants do .

They should also be grow along a trellis to give the plants support . If not they will light over and urban sprawl along the land .
