garden
This is the third in a monthly series in which I believe the mete as a whole , rather than single plant . I hope this will be useful as the season progress , I ’ll be able-bodied to see where the border wait mussy , patchy , uninteresting , flower - destitute , or indeed fabulous .
Rear Garden

edge 1 . The loosestrife is long belong , bloom - wise , although I have n’t cut it back yet . I have remove the mallow and the sunflowers , invaders both . The overall effect on this border in good order now is a bit , well , meh . I need to have a think about adding some colour . The genus Cotinus is looking even more leggy and sottish than it did last month . I ’m not certain what to do about it . I pruned it intemperately to the fabric in early spring and it has responded with lots of very leggy emergence . Should I have trim down it again ? Dunno .
Border 2 . The recollective gay border , mostly replanted this year . It ’s all a second floppy and becoming untidy . I need to do a better job of plump for the plants . I ’m go to have a go at making some supports with pruning from the dogwood , which I intend to pollard again in the give . The dahlias have been great economic value this year , although they have push out other plants a bit . The witchhazel is looking a minuscule worse for wear , I cerebrate it should fall out . Overall this border is still looking OK , although I ’m itch to get to the climbers at the back to bond them in properly , they are currently obscured . I did n’t really opine about that when I planted up the rest . I noticed last weekend that the priming coat is very dry , I must let in I have n’t watered this border for a calendar month or two , relying on the bit of rain we ’ve had .
Border 3 . This is still a hole , a project for next year . It has few redeeming features , an exception being the little patio rose which has been flowering on and off all summer , and is have a last hurrah now . I ’ll pass this border out over the winter , start anew next year . I never have a shortage of plants waiting for homes , so some clear quad will be most welcome .

Border 4 . The Nasturtium are have over ! My defect for not train them up the trellis , which is where they should be as a climbing kind . The ( renamed - but - to - me - will - always - be ) aster ‘ little carlow ’ are in full heyday , adding a bright spot , but in oecumenical affair are looking a bit scrappy . I ca n’t name the flopped - over plant on the right , silver unripened foliage . Not convinced I planted it …
Border 5 . The long shady moulding , I quite like this molding at the moment . The big shrubs are a little overpowering , I ’ll snip them heavily over the winter , this should reincarnate the shrubs but also give the underplanting a bit of a chance to do their thing . I need to replace the pheasant ’s buns sess as it ’s past its good . There is no shortage of re - inforcements as it has been self - seeding munificently about the place . There is not a bunch of floriferous color in the border , even the aster I have is a spot overwhelmed by the midget hops . The mounting rose , ‘ danse de feu ’ has been fabulous this year , it is stil flowering away at the upper stories , about 8 feet in the air . I need to prune and train that easily . There ’s lot to do in this moulding !
Border 6 . The rather horrible solidago has gone , I comprehend it up , hopefully before it coiffe seed . In fact I delve the rest up too , and replanted it entirely . It was a rushjob , so may not remain in this shape . I still desire to enlarge this border , but for now the gaura is the master interest , still flowering intermittently . The genus Helenium have not yet recovered from being push out by the thuggish goldenrod , but hopefully they ’ll put on a show in the next few weeks . A piece of work in forward motion , very much so .

Front garden
Border 7 . In worldwide the front garden is still giving me a disporportionate amount of joy , principally due to the contrast to its anterior , terrible Department of State . There is still a lot of colour in this perimeter , mainly provide by the Dahlia pinnata and the dregs of the potentilla . The genus Dianthus , of which there are many , have just lurked in the front row , throwing up a few flowers , but not the sea of pinkish I was expecting . I still do n’t like the genus Nicotiana , but still have n’t dug them up . I guess I ’ll wait until the flush have gone over .
Border 8 . Pow ! still lots going on . The dahlias again , the osteospermum , cosmos and the helenium provide the pzazz . There is more to do here , and a number of plants which are not yet established and thus from which I can ask more next year . I ’m happy with it .

Border 9 . thing are growing away nicely , although the established bush are rather dominant at the instant . I am half entice to take out the weigela and the sprirea to allow more light in . That would be fairly radical surgery , not trusted I desire to go that far . Yet . perchance I ’ll see how this mete does through next yr and then resolve .
That ’s the round - up for this month . By the prison term October ’s Patrol comes around we will be well into tidy - up before the wintertime . Less flowers and perhaps foliage will be in grounds and we ’ll start to see the bones of the borders . Or miss thence , potentially .
I ’ll be back in a calendar month with the October Border Patrol .
