Last weekend , we celebrated the27th yearly Herb Harvest Fall Festivalfeaturing the intellectual nourishment ofSouth America , as well aschile peppersat the Ozark Folk Center . take about some of the foods endemic to this continent – you might be surprised !
There are many plants that are aboriginal to south America that we run through in our everyday lives . Some of these fruits , vegetable , herbs and fruit like bananas , tomatoes , chile peppers and potatoes are familiar , while others likecinchona(source for quinine),papaloqulite(herb replacement for cilantro ) , and manioc base ( also known as casava and yucca ) are unknown to some of us . Depending upon where we inhabit , many of us gardener already cultivate these food crops .

I bought a measure of manioc ancestor to display and cook for one of our luncheon and also the manioc flour ( also sell as tapioca flour ) , which we made a delicious , gluten - free high mallow wampum from – calledpao de queijo . Manioc rootage should never be eaten bleak since it contains prussic pane ( hydrocyanic acid ) which can have nitrile toxic condition ; cook or pressing the ascendant thoroughly to remove all liquid removes the poison . The vicious liquid was used on the confidential information of hunt lance and arrow . Tapioca is derive from the amylum of this plant and we had a chocolate tapioca for afters that was scrumptious . I also found three colors of quinoa : black , red and white and we had a tasty quinoa salad with tomato and avocado garnished with toasted Anacardium occidentale – all ingredients autochthonous to South America . Here is the connection to that recipe:/item/64909 / quinoa
