These hopscotch stepping stone are n’t the traditional tyke ’s hopping game , nor are they typical for a garden tract . I created these as   part of the   play garden intention I have been developing since my Logos was born .

The estimate behind theplay gardenis to create a place that is operate for small fry while being aesthetically pleasing for grown - ups . I will be writing about the play garden element over the year ( perhaps age ! ) as the garden develops . In the meantime , I design to show offthe pieces that I ’m working onalong the way , starting with these hopscotch stepping stone .

Making   numbered hopscotch stepping stones is fairly simple and can be done in one good afternoon .

Materials

( Makes 10   stepping stones numbered 1 - 9 and a dragonfly )

Make it!

First of all , let ’s let the cat out of the bag prophylactic . Concrete is toxic to skin and can be vitriolic . No matter how ‘ tough ’ you are , just protect your hands with gloves . I know they are n’t fun to work with , but stay sizable , family . Also ,   please use safety gear   to protect your eyes and ears when using mightiness cock . You only get four of them !

Cut the concrete form into 10 2 - inch thick modeling by using a handsaw or a handheld circular saw . Use a sail of paper wrapped around the metro as a guide and carefully disregard the first band off the tube . Cut it heart-to-heart by using a corner cutter to slice through the ring ’s width . pose the cut ring on the tube to use as a scout for all the remaining cuts . Tape the ring together and place it a fraction more than two - inches from the end if you are using a hand saw , or place it where the scout runs if you are using a handheld circular saw .

Now plan for how to make the   number . There are a few way of doing this :

Set the halo on a plastic cliff textile and mix the standard concrete according to the direction on the software program . fill up each of the molds ¾-full of concrete and use the trowel to smooth it out . Take tending to take away any air bubble . This base layer gives the stepping gemstone lastingness .

commix the top-flight or recreate concrete and tot it to the top of each stepping stone . This layer give the stepping stones a smooth , refined top .

Working rapidly before the concrete hardens ,   it ’s time to add the stones . If you have two people working together , one can be pour concrete and polish while the other go down the stones in . We used household numbers as a guide , but you may freehand it , use a foam number , or even just draw an outline with a reefer . Once you have your method acting , initiate adding stones one by one , tally them like a puzzle until you get your 1 - 9 completed .

Gently push a bit of concrete around the stones with your fingertip just to set them in station . If any do fall out , you could always glue them back in . I ’m glad to cover that not   one of our stones fell out ! That surprised me in a very good means .

Cover the stepping stones with a moldable fall cloth and let ironical for 24 60 minutes . The next day , remove mold and go under them in an airy billet for a week to heal before moving them to the garden or lawn .

I arrange the hopscotch   stepping pit through the garden fence in by woolly thyme . As you could see , it still has to originate in . I used 56 plants so it should be a fuzzy , fragrant rug surrounding the hopscotch in no time !
