Kathy Sandel , a retired garden designer in California , has shared her former ( Kathy ’s Calabasas Garden ) and current ( Kathy ’s Garden Transformation in Sacramento ) habitation gardens , and today she ’s sharing pictures of the garden she designed and instal for her boy in Los Angeles .
My Logos had purchased a remodeled Mediterranean - panache base that want a garden refurbishment both front and rear . I went with a mix of variousdrought - tolerant plantsandsucculents — plant that demand little care but have a strong architecture . Everything is ondrip irrigation .
Looking through the gate show the computer architecture of the home and teases with some of the sculptural , lush plants used in the garden figure .

Beautiful foliate come from aredbud(Cerciscanadensis‘Forest Pansy’,Zones 5–9 ) , with colourful coleus ( Plectranthusscutellarioides , Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) around the base . Thecoleuswill do well during the warmer months and can be replaced withheucheraor another option in the colder months .
More bright leaf comes from Nipponese forest grass ( Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 ) , and violet nub ( Tradescantiapallida , Zones 7–10 ) soften the lines of the walls and walkways .
Two stunning , sculpturalagavesflank this entering .

In a climate like Los Angeles ’s , with minimum rainfall , succulent are peachy , easy - care choices .
In - ground beds andcontainer plantingswork together to land softness and living to this mostly paved area .
Theground coverhere is dymondia ( Dymondiamargaretae , Zones 9–11 ) , which will fill in and swear out as a goodalternative to a traditional grass lawnin this warm , dry climate , as it is extremely drought tolerant . A ruddy barberry ( Berberisthunbergii , Zones 4–8 ) provides long - lasting foliage people of colour .

A formalfountainbrings the phone of moving water to the garden and equal the architecture of the home plate .
Changes from the stately paving to the newly institute dymondia supporter fix unlike moods for unlike role of the garden .
We ’ll be back to see more of this little garden tomorrow .
