May Favourites.

I am connect in withCountry Gardenblog where Gillian ’s meme further us to apportion   what is giving   us joy in the garden on the last Friday in the month .    Loree ofDanger Gardenhas a interchangeable meme of favourite plants each calendar month .   I am a 24-hour interval late because after garden for eight   hours yesterday , I was in no United States Department of State to write a post . This is the metre of year when everything seems to get out of control . May , of course is a particularly beautiful calendar month , giving us so many sweetheart to enjoy .   I will start with the bearded irises and in particular , one I am specially proud of with . It is my very own ,   as   I arranged its parent ’s marriage . It is the first to bloom , its   four sib look as if they will wait until next year . The female parent was bare drear ‘ Jane Phillips ’ .

Here is my babe , drumroll please .

I   was so excited until the father came into bloom and I realised how like they are . I ca n’t call back his name . But all the same , I call up my infant is more beautiful .

Father Iris

iris are loose to crossbreed and bloom in about three   old age so it is fun to have a go . I also have some Siberian iris   seedlings   come along . barbate irises do n’t last long , but they do n’t all come out together , so the time of year is extended .

I bought the seed from Chilterns come . Four germinated , but two were eaten by clout . The other one has fewer blooms this year , but they are a pretty shade of pinko . If you want to try growing them from seed you have to be patient . The seeds need to be leave behind out in the cold for the first winter and for a year it looks as if nothing is happening , but with a bit of destiny a rootage will be rise . You have more chance of success with fresh cum . Aquilegias of class , call for no such indulging and put themselves everywhere . Sometimes in fact they place themselves in the perfect spot .

Also by the pond isRanunculus aconitfolius‘Pleniflorus ’ withGeum‘Flames of Passion'(Goodness , who makes these name up ? ) The fern is the statelyOsmunda regalis . From prison term to metre , we all get beguiled by lovely bluish Corydalis flexuosa , only to be disappoint when it disappear without trace . For a long - lasting blue Corydalis , ‘ Spinners ’ is the one to go for . It is a cross betweenCorydalis flexuosaandCorydalis elata . I love it .

Some of my rosiness were here when I arrived and looked very nauseated . I was become to jab these three up , but with a bit of alimentation and punishing pruning they look fine now .

Azalea luteum

One of my favorite genus Viburnum is the lovelyViburnum plicatum ‘ Mariesii ’ which has an attractive tiered use and white clean flowers . Mine circularise out , wide   each year , but so far refuses to originate up . It is beautiful though .

I have never been too keen on hebes as they remind me of municipal park planting . But I do have one special one from New Zealand which does n’t really look like a hebe at all . It is calledHebe hulkeana . Thanks to my dear acquaintance , M , who has shared so many of her treasures with me , for this beauty .

I will finish with just a few more May treasures which are revel me at the moment .

“ It is my very own , as I arranged its parent ’s marriage” … I love the way you worded that , and it ’s a endearing Iris . I also retrieve your Azalea luteum is a lulu !

You have a marvellous collection of looker this May . Peonies always prompt extreme invidia on my part but I was also impressed by all the beautiful Iris and that blue Corydalis left me sighing . I ’ve tried growing the latter but they do n’t survive through the summertime here .

A unquestionable banquet , Chloris ! What a wonderful time of yr it is , but I want to slow it down and freeze frame it , to make everything go longer , as each industrial plant ’s meter in the spotlight seems so unretentive . Everything is looking just gorgeous in your garden , and I quite agree that this is the metre of year when the garden races aside , without a slow-witted glance . Trollius was in evidence at Chelsea this year , in the show garden , and it was good to see this little used flora pose some well deserved tending . Your tree paeony are marvellous , and I am inspire to have a go , despite the inordinate patience require .
