Early summer in the South
Today Peggy Sheets is showing us what happened in her garden in May .
It ’s late May in southerly Mississippi , and I stag a camelia heyday ( crazy this late in the year ) , which got me snapping a few more photos .
Gardening is my passion , and I ’m fortunate to have a achievable - sized yard with lots of shade to ward off the hot summer sun . Most of my garden is in my white picket - fenced front yard , so I get to take on passersby while I ’m outside . “ There ’s that sweaty old lady ! ”

prime onHosta‘Leola Fraim ’ . Usually we turn hostas for the foliage , but the flowers can be pretty nice too .
I ’ve been exhilarate with the fuzzy Bolivian sage ( Salviaoxyphora , Zones 8–11 ) and saw whereFine Gardeningrecommends it too . Here it is blooming with tall verbena ( Verbenabonariensis , Zones 7–11 ) .
Another day lily , Hemerocallis‘Early Frost ’

Stokes asters(Stokesia laevis , Zones 5–9 ) are fantastic too . They like it down here in this blistering , humid sphere , even with damp dirt .
Huey the dog eating zinnia leaves . My dogs avail in the G too . Every blackguard I ’ve ever had ( all dachshunds ) bed to eat old maid leaves and hibiscus flower . Has anyone else had this hap ? The wench and butterflies are happy here too . While inside typewriting , I ’m watching a pair of cardinals , home finches , and a red - headed peckerwood . And the avid grackle .
Hydrangea serrata‘Bluebird ’ ( ‘ fairy bluebird ’ lacing - cap hydrangea , Zones 5–9 )

I go overboard with creeping Jenny(Lysimachia nummularia‘Aurea ’ , Zones 3–9 ) , but it seems to make everything look better . I get so excited to see how plants thread together . Garden surprise are the upright !
I love Gerber daisies(Gerberasp . ) too . I had some in a pot last spring withEuphorbia‘Diamond Frost ’ . When they stopped blooming , the batch was moved to a hidden spot without care , and it continued to flourish . I ’ve transpose the arrangement to the ground now .
