We have some wonderful nurseries and germ for plants and accessories here in the Northeast but one , in particular , is quite extraordinary . Snug Harbor Farmlocated in Kennebunk Maine is one of the more special place deserving a sojourn in you ever find yourself in New England . I ’ve known owner Tony ( Anthony ) Elliott for years , and while I ’ve written about Snug Harbor Farm from the first year that it opened I have never actually ever visited there . Why ? I do n’t know other than I ’m a pretty busy guy and now that my parent are go I never seem to make time to go to Kennebunkport ( where we spend every summer as kids ) .
I was surprised then when I visited this weekend of where Snug Harbor Farm was . – flop on route 9 about a mile from the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge – a spot where I would ride my cycle often to go watch chick ( geeky bird - watchman - Matt at age 12 ) . I have to say that Snug Harbor bring back plenty of memories of Maine for me from the smell of the tidal plane and marsh locoweed to the sounds of fall guy and terns . But what make Snug Harbor special is what Tony and his talented team of horticulturists , stylists and worker have create – a menagerie , a botanical garden , a nursery – I ’m not sure what to call it or how to describe it other than it ’s sorcerous , and it recalls early visit I had made to the now infamous . Alan Haskell baby’s room in New Bedford , MA if any of you readers have ever had experienced that ‘ pleasure ’ .
Snug Harbor appeal to a wide hearing , from prime lovers to succulent fans , there is handwriting made clayware and an entire indoor discussion section with domicile good that are well curated and stylish , but what they surpass in are topiaries . Their signature look are tall , slender , pointed topiary and they are so well train and besotted that even I almost left with a few . I doubt that I could do any better – even though I have lots of experience in topiary craft .
