One Night Stand. ‘Queen of the Night’.

I have had a pricklySelinicereus grandiflorusfor some years now . It grows foresighted rat tails which snake everywhere and it gets very unmanageable to fit . It would seem good go up a tree diagram or cascading over tilt but it has to live in my greenhouse annoying all the neighbouring plants . A bit of it has become attached to a nearbyEpiphyllumand is now growing from it . I have been tempted to get rid of it because it take up so much elbow room and is not very attractive to calculate at . But a while ago I comment a little furry wart uprise on it . It got bragging each twenty-four hours and I realised that at last it was pass away to blossom . The thorny flora in the picture is theSelinocereusand the matt one behind it is anEpiphyllum .

I have several epiphyllum and they have enceinte , showy bloom but I have never see any flower as Brobdingnagian and gorgeous as as this before . ‘ Queen of the Night ’ is a good name for her . The efflorescence only bloom for one night and so each nighttime I have been going into the glasshouse before I went to seam to make certain I did n’t miss it . This evening I cognise it was the prominent nighttime at last because the petals were showing at the top of the furry bud .

I wreak it inside so I would n’t miss a moment . I even play with the idea of an ad-lib party , my good frock and champagne . The bud opened so quickly that within two hr the huge blossom was fully open . It is improbably glamorous and exotic , rather like a jumbo ocean urchin from the side . And the vanilla extract olfactory property is richly tropical . The flora decks itself out in such gorgeous finery and scent to attract moth to pollenate it .

It seems rude to go to bed and exit her alone in all her glory . So I have brought her upstairs and now I do n’t want to turn the light out because I roll in the hay that tomorrow she will have collapsed . All this gloriole for one nighttime only and sadly there have been no moths to pollinate her . I will have to wait until next year for her next performance , and I really will have to coiffure a company for her .

You DO have a wide and varied collection of plant life ! I have 3 Epiphyllums in my lath house , all in pots that are too small with insufficient head way . They need to be move but I ’ve no idea where . When my husband and I live in a rental in Santa Monica , the landlord had a vast Cereus ( at least 9 foot magniloquent ) which also bloomed infrequently and only for a individual night but the neighbors always took a stroll to see it in its glory .
