Jerry and Lee Shannon ’s St. Paul garden is one of the obscure jewels of that metropolis . And , a luckyMSHS garden clubwill get a chance to have a garden party and tour of this magnificent space in the summertime of 2016 , as part of the celebration of the hundred-and-fiftieth day of remembrance of the creation of MSHS . But first , the garden !
The gardens of Lee and Jerry Shannon encompass two - third of an Akko in the Highland Park area of St. Paul . The Shannons are collectors of unusual woody and herbaceous plants which raise gay and funny perennial gardens , a gnome coniferous tree collection , a large rock garden , a cactus garden , a veggie garden , a conventional garden and a ceiling top garden . Numerous garden troughs feature film diminutive alpine plant and miniature hosta are feature in various locations .
Sited under towering ash trees is a garden gazebo surrounded by shade lie with hosta and wild flowers plus a gurgling water feature .

The Shannon gardens have been featured inNorthern Gardener , Better Homes and Gardens , Outdoor LivingandMidwest Homemagazine . Their garden have also been boast on the Home and Garden canal . In 2011 , the MinneapolisStar Tribunenamed the Shannon gardens one of five most beautiful garden in Minnesota .
I was golden enough to visit the Shannon garden in 2009 for a feature that run in the September / October 2009 issue ofNorthern Gardener . The gardens are resplendent . On the solar day I visited , an arch was dripping with wisteria heyday , the aboriginal cacti were flush with yellow blossom and a wooden goat hold Margaret Court on the rooftop shed garden . The lambert - influence lot is impeccably design ; it begs a visitant to research , to sit and to relish .
