Visiting one of Mother Nature’s finest gardens
Indiana Dunes National Parkin northeastern Indiana is full of alone ecosystems created by the grandiloquent sand dune along the shoring of Lake Michigan . Lots of people visit this park for the beautiful sandy beaches , but hike up through the surrounding landscape painting are a must for any plant lover .
Dixie of the dunes are wetland and moistwoodlandsfull of interesting moisture - lovingwildflowers , like this stunningLiliummichiganense(Zones 4–8 ) . In the natural state , this lily unremarkably grows in down in the mouth , crocked areas , though it does n’t involve those condition to thrive in a garden .
Redbee balm(Monardadidyma , Zones 4–9 ) is a vulgar garden works , but it ’s very nerveless to see it grow in the state of nature , the showy bright red flowers pull in everyhummingbirdin the region .

If you boost up the dunes , the landscape changes whole . The hills of double-dyed sand let urine drain aside instantly , so the timberland is supervene upon by grassland , full of wholly different wildflowers .
Most people do n’t associatecactuswith Indiana , but eastern prickly pear ( Opuntiahumifusa , Zones 4–9 ) expand here in the dry sand , flower like disturbed in early summertime .
Butterfly weed ( Asclepiastuberosus , Zones 5–9 ) enjoys thedry soilas well — a hint to keeping this beautiful plant happy in the garden . It really opt good drain and will moulder out in soil that stays too moist .

With a view of the lake , hirsute puccoon ( Lithospermumcaroliniense , Zones 3–8 ) covers itself with intense yellow flowers over a farsighted period in other summertime .
In late summer , Euphorbiacorollata(Zones 3–8 ) puts out clouds of airy white flowers . Think baby ’s breath , but aboriginal and flower from June to September . I ’m not indisputable why this rattling perennial is n’t grown in more gardens ; it is so beautiful !
And the reward for any rise at the green is a view of beautiful Lake Michigan itself , nearly as adorable as all the wild flower that grow along its shoring .
